Some deals are about closing contracts. Others? They’re about changing lives. This was one of those.
The Message That Changed Everything
It was the peak of summer, a time when long-term rentals were scarce, prices were sky-high, and landlords were cashing in on the short-let season. Finding an affordable place was nearly impossible, and clients with lower budgets were struggling to secure anything reasonable.
That’s when I got the message.
“Hello Yusef, good evening, I hope you’re well. I got your number from Lucy, who you rented an apartment to in Gzira a while ago. She told me you found her a nice place and that you could help me find something for me. My situation is very urgent, and unfortunately, my max budget is €900/month. I know it’s hard at the moment, but I really hope you can help me.”
Let’s call her Stacy.
Stacy was engaged. In just one week, she was supposed to walk down the aisle. But life doesn’t always go as planned—she got cold feet and called off the wedding. Now, she was stuck in an apartment she shared with her fiancé, and she needed to move out immediately.
She wanted a cozy one-bedroom apartment with a small balcony in Gzira or Msida. The problem? She was currently living in Mellieha, didn’t drive, and every agent she had contacted told her the same thing—there’s nothing in your budget.
But I wasn’t about to give up that easily.
Three Days, 150 Calls, and a Mission to Find a Home
The next morning, I picked her up from Mellieha and started making calls on the way. Most landlords laughed when I mentioned her budget. Others had nothing available. But I kept going.
“One more call,” I told myself.
That turned into 150 calls over three days.
With fuel prices up and Mellieha being quite the drive, I knew I couldn’t afford to waste time. So every time I picked her up, I made sure I had solid options lined up.
Finally, after three days of searching, negotiating, and persuading landlords, I had three places for her to choose from.
Finding the Perfect Home
We went to see all three, and then I took her for a coffee to break it all down.
“Let’s list the pros and cons,” I said.
One had more space but was slightly above budget. Another was in a great location but lacked natural light. The third? A cozy one-bedroom in Msida for €875/month—within budget, well-lit, and just what she needed.
She decided on the Msida apartment, signed the contract, and moved in the very next day.
More Than Just a Rental—A Fresh Start
I’ve always believed that home is more than just a place to sleep. It’s where you recharge, find peace, and start new chapters. Stacy wasn’t just renting an apartment—she was walking away from a situation that no longer served her and stepping into a new phase of her life.
That’s why I love what I do. Because sometimes, finding a client a home means helping them find their peace. And no commission in the world compares to the satisfaction of knowing you’ve truly helped someone.
